Student Cellular and Residence Hall Telephone Information

Choosing a cellular provider depends upon factors like pricing, coverage, and equipment. The two most frequently chosen cellular service providers in the San Luis Obispo area are CellularOne and Verizon Wireless.

Both companies provide competitive rate plans and offer discounts to Cal Poly students, faculty, and staff. Based on our testing, CellularOne provides superior coverage on campus and inside campus buildings.

See our student cellular survey results.

Standard Residence Hall Telephone Information

In most residence halls, each room has a digital, two-line telephone set.

Each resident is assigned his or her own telephone number with their housing assignment. Basic telephone service, local calls, voice mail and caller ID are included in the Housing Fees. Students must use cell phones or pre paid cards for long distance.

Telephone lines provided in the residence halls are digital; therefore, answering machines, cordless telephones, and modems will not work in Residence Halls.

Cerro Vista Apartment Telephone Information

Each Cerro Vista apartment has one analog telephone line and a single-line telephone set. There are telephone jacks located in each bedroom and in the living room. Students must use cell phones or prepaid cards for long distance.

Basic telephone service and local calls are included in the Housing Fees.

Telephone lines provided in the apartments at Cerro Vista are analog. Therefore, answering machines, cordless telephones, and modems may be used.
