1. What is my password?
All voice mail boxes were set up with the 5 digit extension as the default password, (the default password for 6-1234 is 6 1 2 3 4). Users are encouraged to change their password periodically and keep it private. Passwords can be one to five digits.

2. How do I access my voice mail from an on campus phone other than my own phone?
To retrieve your voice mail from someone else’s phone on campus:

a) dial your number, when you hear your out going message start to play press #, you will be prompted for your password.

b) dial 6-6245, when the system responds with “please enter your password” press * #. You will hear “Welcome to ... please enter your voice mail box number.” Your voice mail box number is your 5 digit extension (6-xxxx). If you wait on the line too long your will hear “Thank you for calling Cal Poly ...” if this happens press # to go back to “Welcome to ...” and enter your 5 digit mail box number.

3. How do I access voice mail from off campus?
To retrieve your voice mail from off campus:

a) dial your number, when you hear your out going message start to play press #, you will be prompted for your password.

b) dial 756-6245, when your hear “Thank you for calling Cal Poly ...” press #, you will hear “Welcome to ... please enter your voice mail box number.” Your voice mail box number is your five digit extension (6-xxxx).

4. Sometimes I hear a greeting telling me that someone can not get the phone and sometimes I hear a greeting that says they are on the phone. Can I set up my voice mail to do that too?
The telephone system tells the voice mail system whether it transferred the call because your did not answer or if the line was busy. If it transfers because your line was busy the voice mail system plays greeting number 4. So record greeting number 4 as a “I am on the phone right now” greeting. Remember that after you record greeting number 4 to set one of the other greetings as your active greeting before you hang up.

5. How do I divert ALL my calls to voice mail?
To divert all calls to voice mail dial * 2 #. The telephone display will now show “DIVERT TO 6624”" to remind you that all your calls are being diverted to voice mail (X6-6245). When your calls are diverted your phone will not make any noise to let you know a call came in. To turn off call diversion dial # 2 #.

6. I do not want to listen to the greeting when I get someone’s voice mail, is there a way to bypass it?
You can skip a voice mail greeting by pressing * after the greeting starts to play.

7. I forgot to save my message after listening to it. Is it gone?
If you just hang up after listening to a message, the system keeps it as a NEW message. You must save or delete a message before exiting the system.

8. When I enter my voice-mail password it is shown on the display. Can I turn off the display?
No you can not turn off your phone display.

9. Can I change the number of rings before my call is transferred to voice mail?
No. The default is to have calls go to voice mail if you do not answer or if your phone line is busy. If you do not answer after four rings the call will be transferred to voice mail, subsequent call will be transferred to voice mail after only 2 rings. If you use your phone (lift the receiver out of the cradle) the ring counter goes back to 4 rings.

10. Can I transfer a call directly to someone's voice mail?
Yes! To transfer a call directly to voice mail, with the caller on the line, press the “inquiry” button, dial 66245 * 6XXXX (the voice mail box number of the party to whom you wish to transfer the call) then press the “transfer” button.
